Bad Wine

I felt so bad last night. Lying on the sofa watching Midsomer Murders with a glass of wine after a long week of work was fine, I had a glass of very nice wine - but something was amiss. I don't know what it was, but there was an edge to the wine.

Then later that evening when I got up to go to bed I had such severe indigestion that I could barely lie down. It only lasted 1/2 hour - but I don't think I will be finishing the bottle!

So what else is new after the news from last week?  Well, actually not that much..

We've started the process of adoption so that I can be the legal parent of our child.

We have taken all of the documents to the lawyer for the adoption.  Copies of everything that is needed, and a copy of everything that might be needed (better to much than not enough...) have been made and now it is up to her to get everything organised.

We have piked the easiest route, just trying for a straight adoption. I have enough stress in life without trying to make this a test case. The only thing we can do now is wait!

And we are trying to ensure that we are ready for when it gets here.

We are busy trying to work out what building work we want on the house, and busy trying to figure out what bills we are going to have in the coming months and budgeting for them.

Hopefully we are going to be able to afford a couple of dormer windows on the house and make some new rooms in the attic, and we are busy trying to figure out how to arrange everything :) If our calculations are correct we are going to be able to double the storage that we have for books as well...

And of course, we are busy trying to figure out how to decorate the nursery - are we going to go for a mural or just keep it solid colours... And which furniture we are going to buy (useful to know which colours ;p).

Oh, and maybe paint the kitchen so that Becca can see the photos of when it's done...

And of course... And we want to start this all ASAP so that we know it's done!

  1. Mothers to be should have given up drinking! Are you not taking your role seriously Stace?

You are going to have to work on the motherliness, calling the poor mite "it"!

Do you have a a spread sheet with forecast expenditure and cost benefit analysis up to the age of about 35 when the child should by recent accounts be free and independent? I love others taking the financial hit and me just having fun and spoiling the children but able to hand them back when they get fractious...

We can only replace our rotten attic windows "because" we chose to never have children...

Your child is such a lucky child, not because of the building work but because you are going to be such loving parents.

    2. Right! Third time lucky!

We have an interim name - Kleintje (Little'un in Dutch), it's just difficult to use it in place of gender specific pronouns all the time. I get told of by English relatives for using 'The Kid' as well :)

We have a spread sheet (well a book), but that is more for tracking what we spend per week to see where we are wasting money - that we won't have in 6 months time!

As for the roof, I know what you mean - we are using savings built up from not having children to do the building work. I don't think it is going to be possible for the coming years! And I'm glad of the big, safe car as well - replacing that won't happen for a while either!

And finally thank you! We are going to do our absolute best!

  2. I second that about the loving parents bit - so true. A second yes on finding another temporary name for your bundle of joy rather than it - even a temporary one would be nice !

As for the kitchen I was embarrassed to ask again ..... :-)

    1. Like I said, we have a couple of names, they just take time to type - and make the sentences harder to read. Not using gender specific pronouns is just so hard (and yes, I really do appreciate the irony there).

Snap! I'm embarrassed to say! ;p

  3. Best of luck with the legal system. I am sending positive vibes to help it all go as smoothly as possible.

As someone who's boy name consists of four first names (really, it does!), I know how laborious a long name can be to type out!

Finally, I think that as long as that stuffed turtle is a prominent feature, any work you do is bound to be a smashing success! :D

    1. Thanks, hopefully keeping it simple is going to help! My only fear is that us wanting to keep it simple is taken for apathy by the judge...

As for the turtle - it was joined by a friend yesterday:

  4. Munchkin is pretty gender neutral :-) Also a good name for a small person.

Being Welsh my son ended up with more vowels than consonants in his name, including Y as that's counted as a vowel in Welsh :-)

Hope the adoption goes through without any problems.

    1. I wonder if the Dutch and Welsh have that in common - Y is a vowel here too!

Munchkin is fine - but we know someone who already uses that :)

Thanks, just getting the last document organised now. Fingers crossed!
