What's black, white and red all over?

Ok, here is a quick test using my mobile to write a post. The keyboard is quite good, so hopefully it'll work well - I just hope that my proof reading is good enough to correct my sweeping mistakes :)

So what's been going on in my life? Well a lot as it happens. The new project in the office is starting to gather pace and I'm learning new things about angular and single page applications all the time. Considering how worried I was about getting back to a techie role in actually quite happy with the progress that I'm making and how quickly I got back up to speed.

I'm still loving the camera on the phone. I'm managing to upload daily pictures to my photo blog again. I just hope it continues. Aside from throwing it down the road once when running and now having it needing a new screen and housing the phone is really awesome! If you're interested there is another selection of pictures here from what I have uploaded. Lots and lots of back and white. And one single one of red!

Which I'm pleased to say is the colour of my hair again after another wonderful trip to the hairdresser last week! A couple of hours relaxing is lovely, and the conditioning head massage is just heavenly.

And... I finally got a decent distance under my belt today. I feel a little ill (I feel hung over, though I haven't drunk much... I think it's tiredness from a couple of late nights) but forced myself out of the door. Once I got into my rhythm I stated to get into it. 3 x 20 minutes normal running, with each one followed by 1 minute fast running and one minute recovery. With a 1 km warm up and 5 mine cool down it managed 12.3 km in total. The farthest I have effect ran! And at an OK pace too!

Right time for a night cap and prep for a back holiday here in Holland tomorrow!

Btw writing this is quite doable on the phone, well done to Google for a good app! Now let's see how the publishing and adding the pictures goes!

  1. Have you noticed how when we start taking photos more regularly than just holiday snaps and family pictures at some point we end up taking ones of clouds and our shadows. I've done both of those recently. The latter one was inspired by something I'd seen from a professional photographer who had taken a shot of his shadow for some project.

I don't know about you but I've found that since I started taken photos every day I've become much more aware of my surroundings and started looking at things with an eye to phot opportunities.

Well done on using the phone app for this post. Seems an impressive little app.

Glad that things are going OK at work. Enjoy the bank holiday.

    1. Absolutely! I love the idea of a self portrait that is also anonymous, as well as the various textures that you get from taking your shadow in different places. The clouds I love for the dynamic range they can give to a picture.

Since I started to try and get a daily photo (which doesn't always work, so I try to make sure that when I see something I get it as backup for the future :p ) I have noticed that I am seeing pictures in everyday life. The third picture down is an example of this. I was in a meeting with the sun streaming through the lavender planted outside the window and into the room and started to think about how I could find a good angle to get a shot of it. It's an interesting way to start looking at the world, hopefully it'll only help my eye get better over time.

The app is really good for writing posts, but unfortunately there is no way of entering comments (WordPress is much better for that!) so this is being done on my laptop again!

Thanks, at the moment (aside from a crock neck that I have just got in he last 30 minutes!) life's good and I am doing my best to enjoy it!

  2. Your photos might be rekindling an interest from a very long time ago. Back in the 'dark (room) ages' I used to buy b&w film and process my own snaps; very arty. I will have to find that option on my phone and digital camera.
As for the rest, I can only say how much I'm looking forward to the day that my posts sound just as comfortable and matter-of-fact about getting on with life.
Oh, and yes, those 'sweeping mistakes'. Isn't it amazing how 'predictive text' can manage to come up with words that had nothing to do with what you think you said!? Maybe I will get up the nerve to publish from my phone someday.

    1. Due to a foible of education law when I was in college I had to take an extra class as three A Levels did not class as full time education (though there were not enough hours in a week for 4, go figure...). I opted to take a rotating class where I could pick 4 studies from a range and do a 1/4 year introduction into each of them. One of the 4 that I picked was photography - black and white 35mm making our own cassettes and doing all of the development ourselves. I can't quite remember how happy I was with my results (scarily enough it is more than 20 years ago now :O ) but I do remember that I really enjoyed the whole process.

Whilst I have the same ups and downs in life as a lot of other people, for the most part I have the same ups and downs as other people. That is something that I would not have expected a few years ago! Good luck, I hope you get there soon!

Ah, auto correct, wonderful when you cannot spell (which I can't) and truly awful when it corrects things that you don't expect it to correct and don't notice it! Especially when you cannot proof read (which, again, I can't...)

    2. 35 mm photography and darkroom techniques is making a bit of a comeback. One local college already runs a darkroom course and our local college is running one in the Autumn and it should be full from the people I know have said they will do it if it runs.

  3. Oh, technology, you secret enabler you. A quick snap here and there, and none of that two week wait, to see if you'd caught what was in the viewfinder. :-)

I don't know what it is about the brolly, but that's a lovely shot.

    1. Not only do you take more, but you also take more risks (at least I do) as it doesn't matter if you get it wrong!

For me it was the contrast again, the geometric shape with the near uniform red and the black shadow. And the fun of taking two shots (one with the colour sensor the other with the monochrome one) and stitching them together. For a handheld shot I'm quite proud of the result :)
